Miguel de Unamuno
Miguel de Unamuno (1864–1936) was a Spanish philosopher, novelist, poet, and rector of the University of Salamanca. His essays on faith, immortality, and the Spanish character, especially The Tragic Sense of Life (1913), placed existential anguish at the centre of religious and national life. His novels, including Abel Sanchez and Mist, experimented with the form of the novel itself. He opposed the military dictatorship of Primo de Rivera and was exiled, returning after its fall. He is considered one of the central figures of the Generation of 1898.
