John Dewey

John Dewey (1859–1952) was an American philosopher, psychologist, and educational reformer, and a leading figure of classical pragmatism. He taught at the University of Michigan, the University of Chicago, and Columbia University, where he spent most of his career. In Chicago he helped establish the Laboratory School, which tested his ideas about learning through experience and inquiry. His major works include Democracy and Education (1916), Experience and Nature (1925), and Logic: The Theory of Inquiry (1938). Dewey argued that democracy is a way of living together as much as a form of government.
