George Washington

George Washington (1732 CE–1799 CE) was an American military commander, statesman, and planter who served as the first president of the United States from 1789 CE to 1797 CE. Born in Virginia, Washington initially gained military experience during the French and Indian War before being appointed commander-in-chief of the Continental Army in 1775 CE during the American Revolutionary War. Through strategic resilience and crucial alliances, he secured the surrender of British forces at Yorktown in 1781 CE. Following the war, Washington emerged from retirement to preside over the Constitutional Convention of 1787 CE, where his immense authority helped secure the ratification of the US Constitution. His two-term presidency established enduring institutional precedents for the American executive branch, including the peaceful transition of power, which he codified in his famous 1796 CE Farewell Address.
