Avicenna
Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥusayn ibn Sīnā (c. 980–1037 CE), known in the Latin West as Avicenna, was a Persian philosopher and physician. Born near Bukhara, he received an extensive education in logic, philosophy, medicine, and other sciences. By his late teens, he had mastered much of the available medical knowledge. He served as a physician and political adviser at several courts across Central Asia and Iran. His major works include *The Book of Healing* and *The Canon of Medicine*. His metaphysics and medical writings profoundly influenced Islamic and European intellectual traditions. He died near Hamadan in 1037.
